A recent report from a consumer advocacy group warned that "overseas sexual performance has become a money-spinner in the U. S. It may be too late to make the purchase of Viagra or other ED drugs in the United States."

"This study has shown no significant increase in sexual activity among men who are taking Viagra," said the agency in a statement.
It found no significant difference in sexual desire or performance among the same groups of men.
A study published last year in the Journal of Sexual Medicine showed that sexual activity was significantly lower among men who take Viagra (sildenafil citrate) compared to those who don't.
"It is not clear why people taking sildenafil should have a higher rate of sexual dysfunction or erectile dysfunction," said Dr. Andrew F. Fagan, a professor of urology at the University of British Columbia.
"It is possible that sildenafil may have a direct effect on sexual desire and performance, or an indirect effect that could be more subtle."

"This was consistent with the effect of sildenafil on erectile dysfunction and the effect of sildenafil on sexual function," said the study.
In a separate review of the literature on the use of sildenafil and Viagra, the paper concluded that "a lack of any evidence that sildenafil increases the efficacy of these drugs in treating erectile dysfunction" or that "it has no clinical evidence to suggest that sildenafil may be useful in the treatment of ED."
Fagan said he did not have enough evidence to say that Viagra was effective or safe.
The research, in addition to the study, is not the first time the FDA has warned against taking Viagra.
In 2009, the agency warned about the potential for adverse sexual side effects associated with the drug.
"While Viagra may be a safe and effective treatment for erectile dysfunction, it should not be prescribed to men who have previously experienced sexual dysfunction. The FDA has not approved sildenafil to treat erectile dysfunction and should not prescribe Viagra to men who have previously experienced difficulty achieving an erection. Sildenafil has been associated with a lower rate of adverse sexual side effects in some men," the agency said in a statement.
